How to Remove Highlight from PDF Articles in EndNote?

June 10, 2014 – Yingting

Question: I was reading an article in PDF in EndNote and highlighted a few sentences. Now I want to remove the highlight. How can I do that?

To remove your highlights or sticky notes, you may mouse over the highlighted area or the sticky note and then right click your mouse for options. Choose “Delete Annotation” at the bottom of the popup window and you will remove the selected highlights or the sticky note.

Make sure you DO NOT click “Remove”. Clicking “Remove” will remove the PDF article from your reference. In case you accidently removed the PDF article from the reference, you just click on the “NO” button to the question “Do you want to save the changes you made to the reference?” when you close the record.

Do not choose “Hide Notes/Markup” either, because it will hide all the sticky notes and highlights. Keep “Show Notes/Markup” enabled.

Hope this helps.

  1. If you’ve highlighted the text several times in the process of trying to remove the highlight, you’ll need to Delete Annotation several times.
